Trent Thomas
Trent grew up in the Monroe Area. His father worked as the Superintendent of Union County Public Schools while he was growing up. He was bat boy for Wingate University when he was 12 years old and the Baseball team was #1 in the nation for a short stint! Trent is a graduate of Wingate University and played baseball on that same field as a college student. In short, Monroe is home for Trent.
Growing up attending a Baptist church which provided a moral compass, it wasn’t until college where Trent fully understood the saving work of Jesus Christ and the fact that his moral compass was broken. Salvation is found in Christ alone and none of Trent’s “good works” would ever be good enough to merit a relationship with God. With a newfound faith and purpose, Trent was discipled in a ministry called Campus Outreach and was brought to a PCA church by that ministry. From there, Trent learned that the church is the bride of Christ and the place to make disciples.
Trent Thomas is an ordained PCA minister who has been called to plant a church by our denomination's committee who assesses potential church planters, Missions to North America (MNA)!
Kathryn Thomas
Kathryn, originally from the Atlanta area, grew up near Monroe as well. They met at Church of the Redeemer, PCA in Indian Trail which is right next to Monroe. Kathryn is the daughter of a PCA pastor and grew up being a part of a church planting work. Kathryn is a voracious reader and loves to read stories of adventure and heroes. She is ready for an adventure, and believes that our hero will prevail! Growing up, she realized that her faith was more in her head and not being exercised until her youth pastor asked her as a high school student to lead a small group of middle school girls. This ignited in her a desire to come alongside women as they grow in their faith and the knowledge of the greatest story of the greatest hero, the Bible.
Our Family
We have four children, and a border collie named Adrian Balboa Thomas, but we call her Addie. That is a story for another day.
In the movie about the story, “The Hobbit”, Bilbo wakes up one morning and rushes out of his house in a hurry. One of his neighbors asks, “Where are you going?!”, to which he states in elation, “I’m going on an adventure!” We believe the Lord has called us to go on this adventure to seek to plant a church for his Glory! Amen.
